Universidad Venezolana de los Hidrocarburos (Venezuelan Hydrocarbon University) celebrates its 10th anniversary

Caracas.-  the creation of Universidad Venezolana de Hidrocarburos (UVH) (Venezuelan Hydrocarbon University) appeared in Official Gazette N° 39.239, in the framework of the Alma Mater Mission introduced by the Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez, with the view to provide higher education to the people and promote a real university autonomy.

Since year 2011 when the UVH open its academy activities, 208 professionals have got their masters and 130 their license, thus bringing tangible products to solve problems in different operational areas of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA).

Today,  UVH has 487 students enrolled in the three Master programs: Oil Fields Characterization and Exploitation, Data Management on Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production, and Ecology and Hydrocarbons, and 112 License Programs (Public Procurement). Up to date, 208 have got their master degrees and 130 have become professionals on different areas.

In this respect, Mirla Fonseca, UVH’s dean, highlighted the importance of postgraduate studies offered by this university to hydrocarbon and mining field professionals.  

“Research is a central axis for final works, both masters and diplomats. Studies and researches resulting become elements to business-decision taking and to foster the application of the studies learnt by graduates on the hydrocarbon industry”, said Mrs. Fonseca.
 
 All this is in line with the core mission: Training competitive professionals for a productive work in hydrocarbon field, complying with Homeland Plan Law 2019-2025, which in its General Objective 3.4.9.6 recognizes the need to “widen UVH space, with the view to fulfill technical training and political-ideological items for oil development areas, particularly for the Orinoco Oil Belt and Off-Shore areas”.

Apart from its three master programs, the UVH’s academic courses count on the recent approval of National Training Plans (PNFA in Spanish) on: Bio-Technology on Energy and Environment, Hydrocarbon and Mining Workers’ Health on Energy Matters.

 The UVH, aware of its main role in the hydrocarbon sector professional’s training, also develops masters on Mining Exploration and Extraction, Facilities Risk Engineering; PNFA on: Production, Hydrocarbons and Minerals Geopolitics, Human Talent Management, Hydrocarbon Laws and Strategic Planning, Public Procurement, as well as Diplomats on Processing, Petrochemical, Finances, Geopolitics and Managerial Supervisory Training.

All of them are taught in the five Research and Training Institutes, which compose the University and where the academic performance of their training programs takes place for the whole country.    
 
International Agreements

Among the most significant achievements of the UVH in year 2019 there is the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gubkin’s Oil and Gas Research National University with the Russian Federation, with the view to develop a mutual benefit international cooperation in the field of science and education. This action was taken during the XIV Meeting of Russia-Venezuela High Level Inter-Governmental Commission Meeting, held in April this year.

By means of this agreement, both parties will develop a joint work in different areas, among which there are: Training of highly qualified specialists in the field of oil and gas; organization of short-term training courses, conferences, professional seminars, business models, training sessions and joint scientific and technological researches with teachers, post-graduate students and scientists from both universities, including preparation of joint reports and scientific works in other areas of similar importance.
 
In this way, the UVH celebrates its ten years at the Forefront of Oil Education at national and international level.
