Punta de Mata.- Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) and Siderúrgica del Orinoco Alfredo Maneiro (SIDOR) sealed a strategic partnership for the supply of 1,410 tons of liquid nitrogen to increase the crude oil production of fields in eastern Venezuela.

Through this agreement by two Venezuelan state corporations, the Eastern Production Executive Office, through Punta de Mata division, will inject nitrogen gas into the wells through a long pipe to encourage cleanliness while at the same time inducing production.

This agreement, considered as historic by oil industry officials, was the result of the work by the Subsoil department, with the support of PDVSA Industrial, Bolívar State Government, SIDOR and the Mayor’s Office of Caroní municipality.

"SIDOR has an extraction plant that separates the air molecules into their components: nitrogen, argon and oxygen, to be used in their processes. Thanks to this agreement, we are supplied with a percentage of liquid nitrogen that is then passed on to a pumping equipment, where it is transformed into gas to perform well cleaning operations”, said Subsoil Operations Manager, Dany Marín.

The union between these two leading corporations was the result of the work by the Aromatic Solvent, Base and Cement “Socialist Grating” team, led by Edwar Carabalí and Luis Arcia, who set out to find a reliable alternative to obtain nitrogen, while eliminating the high costs that were paid to private companies.

Once the initial contacts were made, the project was driven by discussion groups of the Socialist Committee for the Structural Transformation of PDVSA and it is considered an early victory achieved by the workers themselves with the support of Bolívar state’s Bolivarian Government.

"This agreement was made to combat the economic problem facing our country, since the nitrogen we are getting will allow us to perform the raising of the hydrostatic columns and exploration in the wells where is needed”, said Subsoil’s nitrogen operator, Keinnys Garcia.

"More than 33,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen were received by PDVSA, in the first stage, to continue advancing in the main activities that are key for mature reservoir operation", said García.

The SIDOR Oxygen Extraction Plant is located in the state of Bolívar, where Punta de Mata division’s tank trucks are loaded with the product to be transported to the fields of northern Monagas.

The oil industry is saving more than 60%, as nitrogen is no longer purchased through private companies at high costs and production is being bolstered, as ordered by President Nicolás Maduro.

So far, Eastern Production teams have transported approximately 200 tons of liquid nitrogen, to be used right away in four wells of the Punta de Mata division, as announced by the team in charge of the project.

Subsoil Engineer of Own Equipment, Jesús Zapata, believed it was an honor to be part of this plan. "We have shown the commitment that the members of the subsoil team have in terms of shoring up and increasing production. The PDVSA presidency called on us to generate one million barrels and we are doing our best to achieve this goal”.

These strategic partnerships are key for oil industry operations and the development of Venezuela, and demonstrate that the Bolivarian Government, through the union of two state companies, continues to work for the benefit of the people.
