Puerto La Cruz.-  Enhancement project of Puerto La Cruz refinery, better known as Deep Conversion Project (DCP), aims to build up a new tank farm that will add 1,2 million barrels to Eastern Refining Center’s storage capacity. This tank farm will collect the refined products derived from the commercial implementation of the Venezuelan technology HDHPLUS®, to be released in 2019.

Thus, 16 new tanks will be built, as follows: two liquefied gas spheres with capacity to store 20 thousand barrels each; four 150 thousand barrels of capacity tanks for Diesel; three 65 thousand barrels of capacity tanks for liquid sulfur; five 25 thousand barrels of capacity tanks for slop oils, and another one with a capacity of 100 thousand barrels for naphtha.

This enhancement will boost in 2019 the current volumetric of Easter Refining Center, which is calculated at 13,7 million barrels. The construction of this new tanks system is executed in six areas belonging to Puerto La Cruz refinery which are shared among Macotal and El Chaure zones.

Likewise, an adequacy of 35 tanks for optimizing the current tank farm is being executed through a planning of early works which it will permit that 16 tanks keep their own use and 19 other ones change their service.

Additionally, PDVSA builds up two tanks belonging to DCP’s Unit 84 with a capacity of 150 thousand barrels each for being used for waste waters management (aguas acidas). This work records a 67% of progress.

The hard work of 405 workers will ensure the successful assembly of 53 external rings that will shape 18 new tanks. To accomplish it, 240 tons of reinforcing steel and 500 thousand of welding are required.

From its beginning in April 2015, the accomplishment of these works has reached a total of 456 thousand 150 hours of labor up to now.

These remarkable advances showed by DCP represent the commitment of a multidisciplinary team that work tirelessly to build up new processes units needed to value heavy crude oils extracted from Hugo Chavez Oil Belt.
