Curaçao-. Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA) and the Kòrsou Refinery (RdK) signed an agreement to reactivate commercial relations between Venezuela and Curaçao. The agreement establishes the general terms for the reestablishment of commercial and financial operations between the state-owned oil companies, including the possibility of studying the feasibility for the Venezuelan oil industry to store its crude oil in the facilities of the Caribbean island.

The agreement will have a favorable impact on the economies of both countries, since it will be associated with the reactivation of the former Isla Refinery, with a processing capacity of 335 thousand barrels per day. With this agreement, relations between both companies (PDVSA and RDK) will be normalized, and with it, the pending labor commitments will be resolved and in the future, new jobs will be guaranteed on the island, economic benefits will be obtained and the role of Curaçao as a strategic ally of PDVSA will be recovered.

Pedro Rafael Tellechea,  People's Minister of Petroleum and President of PDVSA, highlighted the great agreement between Curaçao, Venezuela, PDVSA and RdK: "Today we can celebrate that we are signing the necessary agreements to continue moving forward, reaching a happy ending, where they will count on Venezuelan brothers and their beloved PDVSA, to provide the technical and operational strengthening required for the success of our beloved refinery here in Curaçao", he said.

Similarly, Tellechea highlighted the agreements that have been reached to process the crude oil required for the refineries, "We cannot see the limitations, we have to see our capacities to be able to continue growing as brothers".

The island's Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas thanked President Nicolás Maduro for his direct role in advancing this agreement and acknowledged the Venezuelan government's efforts to maintain the brotherly relations between the two nations.

The meeting was also attended by Luis Molina, Vice President of Exploration and Production and President of Corporación Venezolana de Petróleo (CVP), Patrick Newton, Director of the K'òurso Refinery and Gilmar Pisas, Prime Minister of Curaçao, as well as other authorities representing the refinery complex.
